Sarah: Born without Identity, The third novel by Mickael Pariente brings us into a multi-layered psycho-genealogical mystery: the protagonist’s search for her biological roots, brought about by the birth of her sister; being adopted by a Jewish father, the only Holocaust survivor of his family of which he remains silent; a Tunisian-Jewish mother, obsessed by her desire to have her own biological child. The father’s excessive love for his adopted daughter and his insistence on the name Sarah brings up many questions. The fact that Sarah also brings to the world a child who does not know his father brings up feelings of guilt, making her quit her search for her roots and dedicate herself completely to her son. Throughout this quest, the author gives us an analytical exploration of distorted relationships and painful conclusions. The realistic writing style offers us an exciting novel which the reader follows breathlessly.
