Grandpa Michaël lives in Paris. Whenever he misses his grandchildren, he calls them and has a hard time explaining to them that a “big sea” separates him from Israel, where they live. This book features three stories inspired by his three grandchildren: Maya, Noam, and Amitai. In “Grandpa, Come Visit Us!”, he tries to help his eldest granddaughter understand the concepts of distance and travel time from one place to another: on foot, by bike, by car, by train, by plane… In “Grandpa, Are You Off the Rails?!”, he uses his travels around the world to explain and illustrate to his youngest grandson the differences in seasons and time zones from one country to another. In “Grandpa, Come to the Arava,” Grandpa takes advantage of one of his visits to his daughter and her family, who live on an isolated hill in the desert, to build a treehouse with his youngest grandson—one that will be exclusively his.
